Hong Kong Children's Hospital takes home next to the old Kai Tak airport runway 🛫 We look after all paediatric cancer, complex cardiac and nephrology patients in the region. It is a fun place to work and the morning ferry commute across the harbour is just part of the journey ⛴

Starting our Tuesday with a #DCMRL in a 2kg neonate with congenital chylothorax. This is one of our smallest kids to be in the MR bore for lymphangiogram so far. Many challenges to overcome but the end result speaks for itself! #SPIRaroundtheworld #lymphaticIR #PedIR

One of the challenges of getting a good neonatal MR lymphangiogram is the poor signal to noise ratio. Our radiographer had the genius idea of adopting an adult knee coil to improve image quality 💡 👏 #SPIRaroundtheworld #lymphaticIR #thinkoutofthebox

Another challenge in this small baby is the tiny node and unstable needle position. With CEUS, the needle position can be verified on the MR table. This minimises patient transfer and chance of needle dislodgement! More on using #CEUS for #DCMRL: rdcu.be/dhgMb

It's time for #renal #angioplasty Thursday! Today we had a challenging case of right renal artery stenosis in a 3 yo child. Attempt from femoral approach was not successful. We tried axillary access from "above" and the balloon went across smoothly! 👏 #SPIRaroundtheworld #PIR

🔥 Fresh off the press! 🗞 For small children, gaining arterial access can be tricky. In this 2.5kg neonate with liver hemangioma, we used the umbilical vein as access and navigated across the PDA for embolisation. Full article just out in CVIR: rdcu.be/dL1OK

Finishing the week off with a tough case - a teenager with desmoid of left leg. These tumours are difficult to treat and recurs after surgery. #Cyroablation has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and size in the CRYODESMO-1 trial 🧊 #SPIRaroundtheworld #PIR Herbert Loong, MBBS, FASCO

#Cyroablation is not a risk-free procedure, especially in children where there is reduced body fat. Both active 🔥 and passive⚡️ thermo-protective measures can be used to prevent complications in MSK cyroablation include skin burn and nerve injury. #SPIRaroundtheworld #HKCH #PIR

The bread and butter 🍞 - how can #PedIR improve care for children with cancer? Apart from cutting edge procedures, having a dedicated #PIR service can shorten waiting time for biopsy and start treatment earlier, when the child is most at need #SPIRaroundaroundtheworld #HKCH
