And that is a wrap here at #IOUK for 2024. Thank you to all the faculty, presenters, and attendees at this year's conference. See you all at the ASM!

I’m going to say it again. Once PA’s reach critical mass they will self train. Setting scope of practice will only delay this. We need to take direct action to stop further training (but look after those in post). PA’s = physician assistants is what’s needed not replacement.

I became a consultant in 2012 after heading to medical school in 1991. It took me nearly 20 years to become a consultant / specialist. PAs cannot do it after a two year "masters". The only person who is a heart specialist is someone who has done medical training, passed post

Delighted to announce that, as a result of the membership survey on PAs, RCGP has recommended that GP practices halt the recruitment & deployment of additional PAs into General Practice at present.

If you're a patient and can't get an appointment with a Dr, blame government policy to replace GP's with pseudo-drs 'trained' in 2 years not 10.

If you're an elected rep from #ARM2024 there's less than 48 hours left to vote for next sessions reps. Please consider supporting me in both pensions & consultants to carry on the fight towards #PayRestoration and sorting out pensions / pension tax Link👇 elections.bma.org.uk/userNomination…

Want to know why NHS has been embroiled in industrial dispute over the last 18 months, it's because the government did this to NHS pay (top row👇), whilst the rest of the population (all workers) have now recovered real terms pay. RT (& VOTE) if you want a CHANGE of approach

Is PA role like Dr role? Stethoscope - Yes Lanyard - Yes Scrubs - Yes Claimed “Medical” - Yes Accredited course - No Medical School - No 10 - 15 years training - No Taught by Drs - No PA studies is an unaccredited course, mostly taught by non Drs & lasts 2 years.

When PAs are regulated by the GMC they will be able to request ionising imaging. Will they be non-medical referrers following NMR pathways with limited requesting scope? Or, as the GMC describe them as “medical professionals”, will they have universal requesting like doctors?

I’ve worked in the NHS for 40 years, and I’m not shocked at all, having spoken to so many grassroots doctors and tried in vain previously to get governments to listen. Give doctors the facilities & resources & we’ll get on with the job. If you don’t invest, this is what you get.
