After the world premiere last week of Sun Keting's 'Us, the most fleeting of all' Cheltenham Festivals, with James Murphy Royal Philharmonic Society. Such thoughtful, radiant music and a real pleasure to perform. A massive thank you to Royal Philharmonic Society for their support!
I had a wonderful time speaking to Lark Music Insurance about life as a musician, dealing with depression, and the joy that music can bring. Watch the full interview on youtube.com/watch?v=Pck59s…
With two of my wonderful Trustees - Nick Steel Gloucestershire Music & Penny Wright - after our fundraising concert for the Gloucestershire Piano Trust on Saturday. The GPT will support my work in prisons and schools. A massive thank you to all who took part! clarehammond.com/projects/glouc…
Did you know that our website features interviews with artists from our new season, including Eduardo Strausser, Fiona Monbet, Clare Hammond & Ben Goldscheider? You can find them on the event pages for each concert + also view them by scanning the QR codes in our season brochure.
"If there is one thing you could change about being a musician, what would it be?" from my interview with Lark Music Insurance. I'd be really intrigued to know what other musicians think!
The older I get, the more grateful I am for those who've supported me. This is Helen Ffrench, my first piano teacher, from 1991-3. She came to my recital Cheltenham Festivals last month where I played the last piece we'd worked on together, the 'Moonlight' Sonata. Lovely memories!
At Raritäten der Klaviermusik last night in Husum ✨ So good to be back at this very special festival. Looking forward to returning to Germany for my debut Konzerthaus Berlin, 11 Sep! konzerthaus.de/en/programm/es… 📸 Thomas Lorenzen, Mona Jacobsen
Well deserved praise for visionary composer Hélène de Montgeroult Frankfurter Allgemeine!! 🎉 Her music "fundamentally shakes our image of the early nineteenth century... a woman is now at the forefront of music-historical innovation" 👂live Konzerthaus Berlin 11 Sep konzerthaus.de/en/programm/es…
With actor tamamatheson after "Don Juan: the brilliant irreverence of Lord Byron" Southwell Music Festival this weekend. So lovely to be back on home turf and see old friends!
Preparing Montgeroult for recitals Konzerthaus Berlin & Salle Bourgie, and fascinated by the first edition of her etudes. It is astonishing that we can access this material so easily on IMSLP now - what a fantastic resource!
People are always asking me how I turn pages on the iPad while playing and using the pedals, so here is a demo. Tape a bluetooth pedal (DonnermusicUK) to the ground, use piano pedals as usual, then rotate left heel to turn. Takes a little getting used to but worth persisting!
Welcome to a new season of the #RAArtistinFocus! First up this week is Clare Hammond who makes her BBC Proms debut this Sunday, performing Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini with the BBC Concert Orchestra at TRCH ! 🎹 rayfieldallied.com/artists/clare-…
This concert season is a big one for me, with performances BBC Proms Konzerthaus Berlin Salle Bourgie & Wigmore Hall. One of the biggest challenges is preparing all the repertoire at the right time. This is my practice plan - it runs up to Christmas and helps keep me sane(-ish...!)
Gets me every time! Variation 18 of Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Join me to hear the rest with BBC Concert Orchestra & Anna-Maria Helsing BBC Proms, 4pm on Sunday, either TRCH or live BBC Radio 3 🎉 bbc.co.uk/events/efnqwh
