Lovely trip to London for NELA Project Team meeting, updating on my PhD project: long-term outcomes following EmLap. Unsurprisingly, ⬆️ CFS associated with higher risk of death. Most notably in first 90 days, but also further than this. Look forward to sharing more soon!

A practice example shows how critical reflection helps nurses to enhance the person-centred care of older people in our latest peer-reviewed article Dr Gayle Madden RMN Beth Goss-Hill MA, BA,RGN journals.rcni.com/nursing-older-…

Love the conversations about CFS. It’s useful to grade people rather than just look at age. But people with CFS of 6 can cook sunday roast and look after grandkids. People with CFS 7 may still be full of chat and good at fixing electrical equipment! #LeedsFrailtyEd

Great talk from Claire Swarbrick with SNAP3 results. Outcomes worse when delirium occurs - emergency surgery, frailty and age all huge influencing factors. We MUST be proactive in preventing/minimising delirium for EmLap patients if we are going to achieve best outcomes #AAAConf

Common problems but we have amazing resources to support patients and HCPs to prevent/manage consequences of frailty/delirium & really need to focus on implementation - check out Centre for Perioperative Care British Geriatrics Society POPS & refs such as pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35001376/

It’s remarkable how people are always looking for that magic wand or treatment, the answer is usually staring us in the face: its multicomponent interventions. Let’s get all that right.

We need staffing levels that protect nursing staff and patient safety. Governments should be responsible for ensuring patient care is provided in safe conditions by the appropriate number of nursing staff. Ask prospective politicians to support the nursing profession.
