In a new paper out today, we have analysed the feasibility of reaching gigatonne scale carbon capture, removal, and storage deployment by mid-century nature.com/articles/s4146…

The effect of rain on air-water gas exchange and CO₂ fluxes is a topic I started researching 30 years ago. I’m really pleased to see our latest paper — showing that rain enhances ocean CO₂ uptake — finally in print.

We might have less geological CO₂ storage by mid-century than some would like, but that's why storing CO₂ as bicarbonate in the ocean — as enhanced rock weathering and ocean alkalinity enhancement would do —is attractive.

When two things I care about collide, climate change and Rothko. Hurricane Beryl’s damaged the Rothko Chapel’s ceiling, walls, and three Rothko panels. The chapel will remain closed indefinitely. 😩 wapo.st/3AJ73Z4

Thanks to those who engaged with the climate disinfo piece. Many, including Aaron Regunberg who wrote a thoughtful critique, asked— Why would fighting disinfo be at odds with clean energy buildout? Why not both? Jacobin just published a short response: jacobin.com/2024/08/climat…

We spent 4 years working on this paper about the scientific, legal, economic, and governance considerations of whether coastal and marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) can help close the emissions gap. Please take a look and tell me if it was worth it. online.ucpress.edu/elementa/artic…

Blue Sky! So I joined yesterday and already I love it. A thread with thoughts on it and Twitter and all that. Please RT cos I expect the algo supresses mentions of it. TL; DR: it's good, come and join us. I joined Twitter a couple of years ago & really benefited from it 1/x
