Video grab (L) shows #Thame flood in tributary impacting larger valley. My student Holly Basiuk (she/her/elle) ID'd the spot using Google StreetView as 27.830°N, 86.659°E. Why does that matter? It is almost certain to have originated from one of the glacial lakes in the last image. 1/2

The Thame flood has been recorded by the seismic station at Mt. Everest, giving us some information about flood timing and evolution (time on the plot is UTC time, not Nepali time).

The recent glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in Thame, Solukhumbu district in the Everest region have caused severe damage and endangered human lives. Prioritising climate change and mountain issues, Nepal has begun to systematically promote the mountain agenda in national

Update on #Thame #ThameFlood #GLOF in Nepal. Looks like my interpretation of trigger was incorrect. What I thought was a landslide scarp on Aug 17 imagery was already present Aug 16, so unlikely to be related. Still waiting for more imagery to see what might have occurred.

A very large avalanche (unclear if a detached glacier or a snow avalanche or a combined rock/snow/ice) has struck the Mustang region of Nepal. The source area still obscured by clouds but travel distance may be up to 6km! (Imagery from Planet) Dave Petley
