Time to stop the term 'Virtual Wards' - patients and their families find it confusing (as do clinicians). Hospital at Home describes what we do, links to a global evidence base and a world wide network of clinicians, researchers and societies who all use 'Hospital at Home'

The phrase ‘virtual ward’ has been confusing for patients and clinicians alike. Time to use a name that actually describes what we are doing #HospitalAtHome

Hospital@home describes our work. It is important that we use the correct terminology and the evidence base to ensure services are developed correctly for our patients hospitalathome.org.uk/Name_Statement

UK Hospital at Home Society I may have asked the Society for SAM Online whether HaH work is "core business" for acute physicians. With more training, I think acute physicians working with geriatricians and GPs can do fabulous work in this domain. But an MDT (therapists, pharmacists) is vital.

British Geriatrics Society UK Hospital at Home Society Royal College of Physicians have released a joint statement in support of the term #HospitalatHome instead of #VirtualWard. The term ‘virtual wards’ does not reflect the level of care and skill required, nor does it provide clarity to patients. bgs.org.uk/policy-and-med…

Use of a term within NHS England Community Health Services that does not represent the care model for patients, does not align with the pre-existing services, scientific literature and also professional societies globally should now be stopped. #VirtualWards bgs.org.uk/policy-and-med…

It’s been a real privilege to work with Firdaus Adenwalla on the UK Hospital at Home Society committee. He has spent years developing acute medical care at home in Wales with a multidisciplinary team. Wonderful to see this recognised by British Geriatrics Society
