This Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May, our exhibition Great Escapes, café by The Original Maids of Honour and shop will be open 11:00 - 16:00. The reading rooms will be closed all weekend and we are closed on Monday 27 May. We are open on Tuesday 28 May as normal. nationalarchives.gov.uk/great-escapes/
Fabulous resource from Suffolk Archives on Bury St Edmunds appeal tribunal records showing how men could appeal vs conscription in First World War. 72% granted some kind of exemption (often just a deferral). Amazed at how easy it is to do research The National Archives these days- I take pics on iphone & airdrop to laptop (both of which connect to free WiFi); don’t bother with chargers as both stay charged all day; swipe my card to see what’s on order… seamless & really ups productivity!
