Can't even throw a stolen category 4 firework attached to a can of Stella to a 16 year old after 11pm nowadays, because of woke.

Open access in Philosophy, Psychiatry, & Psychology until the end of the month! Why democratize psychiatric research? I outline six epistemic and ethical features of the field that generate participatory obligations. The epistemic features include: 1) the irreducible value of patient experience..

Candice Vinson, PhD I like Jonathan but certainly don’t agree with him on this. It’s a grave social regression to once again seek to place depression outside the medical model. Reducing mental health to will power, is a regression that demonizes suffering people.

Candice Vinson, PhD “Personality style,” is not a causal explanation for depression, neither is using the analogy of a fever. The work to be done is in neurobiology. Now, that said, if cognitive techniques can be innovated that reduce depression (for some), that’s a wonderful thing.

Chris Cannida, M.S., LPC-S Candice Vinson, PhD Certainly a subjective element to it, but the bottom line is that it’s a (complex) neurochemical condition taking place in the brain (maybe correlated with microbiome). People are victims of these conditions, reducing that to a failure of will power, is regressive.

Dr Annie Hickox Dr Joanna Moncrieff It’s also rather patronising - many healthcare professionals who know how to research the evidence also become unwell in fact more than in the general population.

Candice Vinson, PhD Chris Cannida, M.S., LPC-S You’re not understanding, that’s what your position reduces to. All you have to do is probe what you mean by “personality style.” The emerging psychological narrative is a will power narrative - it states that mental health is simply a choice, moving away from the medical model.

Chris Cannida, M.S., LPC-S Candice Vinson, PhD Hello Chris, I was specifically referring to Candice. And no, certainly not “discount” your expertise, nor that of Candice. I aim to refute a dangerous narrative that’s subtly emerging that’s going to victimize suffering people: the departure from the medical model.

Philosopher Jersey Flight (@jersey_flight) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Candice Vinson, PhD Chris Cannida, M.S., LPC-S I agree. I deal in critical theory / we try to see the danger in advance. From my analysis of Anti-psychiatry and trends in Positive Psychology, a new will power narrative is emerging, and it’s dangerous! If adopted it will ultimately defund mental health!

Let me try to make this clear. The adoption of the medical model for mental health was the most significant thing that ever happened to mental health! It doesn’t matter if this model is imperfect, what matters is its quality social impact on mental health!

A huge problem with the way society is going.... People who think they know a lot more than they actually do. We have experts for a reason, and too often they're being shirked in favour of populism and rhetoric.
