The opposite of understanding is not misunderstanding. The opposite of understanding is anti-understanding. It's where there is strategic disinterest in understanding.

People think listening is a low-value skill, and they’re above average at it. That's unconscious incompetence on display. Listening is the most underrated, underdeveloped skill in the world. It’s the clearest difference between the amateur and the master.
