Went to Dorset Wildlife Trust 's Upton Heath today on the way back from some Nightjar recording and enjoyed an hour watching 10-15 Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly's along with a few Small Reds. 12sp of Odonata seen in total.
Just reflecting on leading my first trip for Naturetrek to Pembrokeshire. An incredible experience. Willow Tit was special & a first for me. But Puffins and Dippers stole the show along with Golden-ringed Dragonfly's. A brilliant week with great company.
Really pleased to have seen my first Heath Tiger Beetle (Cicindela Sylvatica) with 3 seen early this morning on a Dorset Heath. A nice way to start the day before heading to the library to do some work! Dorset Wildlife Spot #wildlife
There have been some decent birding days in Dorset since the warm weather began. One thing that had been missing was a decent raptor. This changed today when this cracking Honey Buzzard drifted out to sea over Durlston Country Park whilst Daniel Whitelegg and I were ringing.

A fantastic 9 days Spurn Bird Observatory that started with Red-eyed Vireo & Ortolan Bunting & ended with Yellow-browed warblers and a snow storm of thrushes. Sunday morning was quite spectacular at dawn with c30k Redwing & c1.8k Song Thrush they were quite literally everywhere. Simply 🤯
Today Daniel Whitelegg & I were out ring reading in Hyde Park when the famous Pigeon eating Lesser Black-backed Gull struck. It proceeded to drag the pigeon out into the water before effortlessly finishing it's dinner. All in front of a crowd of mortified tourists! #londonbirds
An early November clear south westerly can only mean one thing Woodpigeons! A cracking day RSPB Rainham Marshes with David DarrellLambert saw 33,335 Woodpigeon 📸 623 Fieldfare 📸 good numbers of finches played a supporting role. Most of the visible migration had dried up by 11am. #londonbirds

When a possible Woodchat Shrike became a definite when this flicked up on to the brambles in front of us! A new species for RSPB Rainham Marshes reserve. Made even better by seeing Little Tern on the Thames before hand. Still in a state of shock! Absolute🔥🔥🔥 #londonbirds
Not the bird I thought I would see in the hand whilst ringing in Dorset this am. A Male Cirl Bunting! An unexpected lifer & a control from elsewhere! A Juv was also seen around the site! Pied flycatcher, 7 Tree Pipits & 2 Groppers the best of the rest. Dorset Bird Club
