Small changes to improve safeguarding can go a long way to ensuring the safety and well being of attendees, performers, volunteers, and staff at festivals. Take a look and share these resources to help us spread the message! thebitcollective.co.uk/furtherreading… Esperance FannyRiot

We’ve been working with Cambridge Folk Festival to make safeguarding procedures more visible and to pilot new ideas in the festival’s youth area - The Hub. Find out more below and we’re keen to hear of other folk festivals doing great work in safeguarding. esperancefolk.com/post/safeguard…

(1/3) We have changed the primary purpose of our Safe Space Folk scheme. The scheme will now primarily focus on helping survivors, and those looking for advice on how to deal with instances of misogyny and abuse within the scene, seek out appropriate help and resources.

While I think the need to increase exposure to women’s stories is vital I’m not sure this is the way to achieve it - FairPlé in examining state of gender balance across Trad & Folk festivals noted a similar trend by programmers of having a “Women’s section”. Problem w this 1/3

Top work from The BIT Collective here! Disappointing stats & an important call to action. “Representation goes a long way in demonstrating meaningful commitment to change and inspiring attendees to follow and take part in traditional music.”

how come a 200 year old song is about inc*l culture and drink spiking? in my song Oxford City I didn't change a single word of the lyrics from the manuscript. but it's still depressingly relevant I will sing about this until it's fixed
