Either a medical degree & post grad exams are needed to safely practice medicine, or theyโ€™re not. Incredibly, GMC, NHS England, Royal College of Physicians & RCGP have decided theyโ€™re not. Non-doctor substitutes, PAs, can treat you instead - on doctor rotas. Did you consent to this? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

For years women have spoken up about their experiences of extreme pain during gynaecological procedures. More research is needed if we want to reduce the risk of severe pain and improve understanding among medical professionals, Stephanie O'Donohue bmj.com/content/386/bmโ€ฆ

Beautiful piece about Barbara Watson - the first person to survive a brain tumour operation. The photograph is from a journal in our archive which belonged to William Macewen, the Glasgow surgeon who performed the operation. But this is Barbara's story โค๏ธ

โ€œPrivileged men often spoke as if they were not living in relation with others - as if they were autonomous or self-governing, free to speak or act as they pleased.โ€

Today is the first National Suicide Memorial Day for our Health and Social Care colleagues, who have died by suicide. Medics are twice as likely to die by suicide than people working in other careers. Iโ€™ve lost medical friends to suicide, and remember them today and always.

โ€œI was told what things should be likeโ€. This has also been my experience when giving feedback about some abysmal experiences. Deeply invalidating.

After 22 years we are home to an empty nest. Been reading this gem of a poem all week to prepare. Fly high, dream big, have adventures & pop home from time to time to tell us all about it xxx

Art has been a core part of my psychiatric assessments of children & teens for years, partly because of my personal experiences of art therapy. I was pleased to talk to The Doctor Magazine about arts-in-health & art therapy. Iโ€™m looking forward to discussing this on their podcast ๐ŸŽจ

This is an excellent piece, but I disagree with the statement โ€œitโ€™s hard to imagine many other diagnoses that doctors would keep secretโ€. I think many doctors keep diagnoses - physical and certainly mental health issues - hidden until they feel they no longer can.

Please support if you can. Emily and her family have just experienced the sudden death of their two-year-old daughter, Isabelle, three years after the sudden death of their young son, Alexander. Both children lost their lives to a rare condition called PPA2 deficiency. #ChildLoss

My jaw dropped at how prophetic and pertinent to our political moment this is: The visionary pediatrician turned psychiatrist Donald Winnicott (writing in 1958) on the psychology of democracy, the most dangerous kind of person, and the unconscious roots of resisting women leaders
