Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children in the US. The best way to protect children is by using the correct car seat for their age and size, and making sure it fits securely. #CheckBeforeYouChange #T4CIP

Kids under 4 years or less than 40 lbs. should be in a car seat, and kept rear-facing as long as possible to maximize safety. Only switch to forward facing when they meet the height or weight limit for their car seat. #CheckBeforeYouChange #T4CIP

Children under 8 years old who have outgrown their car seat should remain in a booster seat for their safety. Once they outgrow their booster seat, they should remain in the back seat with a seatbelt until the age of 13. #CheckBeforeYouChange #T4CIP

Questions about your child’s car seat? Have a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) inspect it today. Go to SafeKids.org and select “Find a Tech” nearest to you. Or, schedule a virtual check at CarSeatEducation.org. #CheckBeforeYouChange #T4CIP

Remember, changing children to the next car seat too early is a step backwards in protection. Before you switch, check your car seat’s weight and height limits, and talk to your pediatrician! #CheckBeforeYouChange #T4CIP
