Never too late There are people who had jaundice, ascites, encephalopathy, and variceal bleeding 2-3 years ago who are, today, loving life, working, and having ultrasounds read as "normal" with no red whatsoever in their lab panels All because they stopped drinking alcohol

It has been an amazing few years as an APD at UTHealth Houston IM Residency and before that at BCM IM Residency. I’ve grateful to have worked with amazing residents and educators, and am sad to leave Houston, but excited for new adventures in Seattle at General Internal Medicine at UW Medicine and UW Medicine Residency!

Before the social history became a reductive checklist of vices it gave us a fuller understanding of the patient’s identity outside of their disease My father’s oncologist used the marginalia of his paper chart to record precisely these grace notes as a very humane aide memoire

Here’s a video I made breaking down this very important case of a 60-year-old woman who was brought to the ER by her children with abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting #FOAMed
